The Importance of the body’s Subtle Energy System

Written by Linda James. Posted in Blog

ChakraYou may already be familiar with the eastern interpretation of the body’s Subtle Energy System, as the concepts are being more widely adopted by western societies.  Only fifteen or twenty or so years ago the words chakra and meridians, never mind nadis, were not part of our everyday western language.  Today, however, as a result of media coverage, a wider variety of wellbeing publications, and the choice of many more highly qualified and professional natural therapists and energetic healers, there is greater awareness and acceptance.

This is evidenced by the fast growing interest in America, Australia, the UK, and many other parts of the western world, in natural therapies and alternate ways of being.  People are starting to understand that there is more to us than just our physical body, and that the subtle energy system plays an important part in everyday energy levels and wellbeing.

What is interesting is the way the ancient traditions are now being more acknowledged by modern science, whereas in the past they were discounted because they could not be proven or verified.  Acknowledging now that energy, and our Body’s Subtle Energy System and Energy Healing, are a natural part of life.  So why did we lose that connection to our natural energy system?  What happened was, in the 17th century the sciences of physics, chemistry, astronomy and medicine began to emerge.  As this devotion to a mechanistic world began to grow, the individual sense of consciousness, belonging and connection to the universe began to diminish.

Anything that could not be reduced down to scientific study and be measured or validated, such as intuition, psychic ability, consciousness, energy healing or creativity were classified as superstition. Everything was being reduced to mathematics of probability, and the view of the world became black and white.  Importantly, science has more recently acknowledged that everything in the universe is energy, giving validation to what was previously only considered superstition. However in many western schools today we are still taught that physical intelligence is more important than awareness of our higher senses, of our intuition and our subtle energy system.  This awareness may have been buried, but it is so ingrained in the psyche it is not destroyed.  The most successful and happy people today are often very aware of their Subtle Energy System and how to balance and maintain it.  They have learnt to live in tune with their natural energetic rhythms.

You may be saying, ‘but, I have managed without being aware of my subtle energy system so far’.  Maybe you have on a conscious level, but your unconscious mind is very aware of it and reacts accordingly, everyday.  Here are some examples of how your subtle energy system may be reacting:

  • You feel tired or stressed from other people’s energy when travelling on public transport.
  • There is a sense of overwhelm from bright lights, or intensity of colours or noise in shopping centres.
  • You feel uncomfortable in crowds
  • You feel drained when spending time around equipment such as computers, TV sets, microwaves etc.
  • You feel tired when you live or work in an environment with neutral or dark or drab colours.
  • You constantly wear black (a non colour which blocks energy), usually as part of the ‘corporate uniform’ which may have resulted in low energy levels.

Fortunately, there are simple ways to help balance your subtle energy system:

  • Consciously pull your auric field closer to you before you get on public transport, that way you will not be picking up other people’s energy.
  • Add more colour to your environment or your clothing.  The chakras have varying levels of vibrational energy and relate to colours that also have a vibration.  A lower vibrations is red (base chakra) and a higher vibration is purple (crown chakra).   Your energy system knows what it needs, so add the colours that feel right for you.  This may change from day to day.  Remember: add clear bright colours not murky colours.  Include also a vary of coloured foods to your meals.
  • Switch off electrical appliances at the source, particularly electric blankets, and keep as much electrical equipment as possible out of the bedroom and your living and working environment.
  • Walk barefoot as much as possible.
  • Spend time in nature – green is very nurturing and healing.
  • Spend time reading some of the many good bookings on the body’s energy system and ways to enhance it, such as Wheels of Life by Anodea Judith.
  • Book into an introductory course on Subtle Energy Systems of the Body to learn more about the ‘other’ part of your body.
  • Make an appointment for an Energy Balance.
